Yael Sonia, New York 2014

For Yael Sonia, the Brazilian renowned Jewelry designer Uli Wagner converted and industrial prewar Soho loft in NY into a luxurious showroom/ studio space.  The open plan was remodeled to create a secured entry scenario, office spaces with different levels of privacy, hidden service functions like kitchen and wardrobe, but first of all a spacious well laid out sales area that caters to the entertainment of clients. Besides a well-placed and lit main display wall you find a curated display table and seating arrangements of varying type. Inspired by Ms. Sonia’s geometrically playful Jewelry all furniture elements are custom designed, besides seating elements by Holly Hunt and Zanotta. The material palette is characterized by different types of warm woods and bright off-white plasters and fabrics that set a clear, precise yet feminine look. A blue upholstered accent chair and blue seating pillows on the inbuilt bench along the window offer a cool refreshing contrast within the mix of materials. Uli Wagner commissioned plaster artist Michael Allen to create a lively gilded plaster wall as background for the first product statement in the foyer space. The large carpet in the main area is a custom development and repeats in his construction the bi-color approach of combining warmer with cooler tones, as described in its effect before. Also Ms. Sonia’s private office has custom tailored millwork. Photos: Nina Choi & Michael Stavaridis
